Parking
There is a lot going on in downtown Grand Rapids this weekend -- boxers will also battle it out at DeVos Place (Friday, Saturday, Sunday), the GR Symphony is performing next door (Friday, Saturday), the Grand Rapids Griffins take on the Manitoba Moose (Friday and Saturday night), runners hit the road for the Grand Rapids Marathon (Sunday morning) ... construction. And now there is a presidential campaign visit on Friday. We recommend you plan ahead for travel and parking.
The most convenient parking is the DeVos Place underground parking garage off Michigan St (across from the US Post Office), but it might not always be easy to access. One suggestion is to take the Pearl St. exit (85B) off 131, then north on Scribner Ave. NW (runs between 131 and the Gerald R. Ford Museum), then east on Michigan St. The parking garage entrance will be immediately to the right after crossing the river. Please note that the parking ramp is only accessible when traveling eastbound on Michigan St. Additionally, those coming downtown from westbound 196 cannot exit at Pearl St. from 131S. You may want to exit at Lane St (next exit off 196W after the 131/196 interchange).
Other parking options include the Government Center Ramp and Vandenberg Garage, both accessible from Monroe (directly across from DeVos Place) and Ottawa Ave (one block east of Monroe). Attendees are also encouraged to hop on the free DASH shuttle, with stops conveniently located near many of the downtown hotels.
Thursday/Friday Travel
- Travel to and from downtown hotels will likely be impacted by the Friday morning presidential campaign visit. As far as we know, Pearl St. will be closed from Front St. to Monroe Ave. from Thursday at 5:00 pm to Friday at 2:00 pm (red/short dashed line).
- The Holiday Inn GR Downtown is located off Front St. at the corner of Pearl St. For those checking in/traveling to the Holiday Inn GR Downtown between Thursday at 5:00 pm and Friday at 2:00 pm, you may need to go around the block (green/long dashed line).
- For travel to DeVos Place from the Holiday Inn GR Downtown or Residence Inn GR Downtown, we recommend navigating south to Fulton St. and traveling west to Winter Ave NW. Head north (right) on Winter Ave NW. Turn right on Douglas and left on Summer before heading east (right) on Bridge St/Michigan St to the DeVos Place parking structure (blue/dotted line).
